失敗また失敗 そして敗退
Failed and failed and beaten
今回はインテークパイプの曲げに挑戦です。
銅、真鍮は何とかなりました。ステンレスで作りたかったのですが約２週間、くずの山を作りいったん撤退を余儀なくされました。
その顛末を報告します。
This time I challenged to bend the intake pipe.
I scarcely did it on copper and brass tube.
But I want to make it by stainless steel pipe.
I had been making scraps for these two weeks and was obliged to evacuate
for a while.
I really opened a can of worms.

 パイプ曲げに使う砂と栓。砂はエジプト産純正サハラ砂です。 別にこれの必要は全くないのですが、たまたま正月に出かけたときに拾ってきてありました。思わぬところで役に立ちました。 Sand and spigot for bending. The sand is genuine Sahara sand. It was not always necessary for bending. I happened to have it around me, because I went Egypt at the beginning of this year. |
 まず曲げテスト。パイプに砂を詰めて加熱して曲げてみました。 非常にうまく曲がりました。 TEST bending, |
 上の拡大写真。ほとんどつぶれ無しに曲がりました。 これで楽勝と思ったのですが・・・・ Close up view of upper photo. I thought I could do it easily. |
 ただ曲げれば良いわけではありません。一応CAD上で出発点と終点をチェックしました。３次元なので表現が難しい。 Pipe arrangement on CAD. |
 一応一個完成しました。ここまでは治具の製作を含めて２日ほど。 銅パイプで作るのならあと一晩で完成だったのですが。 First one. It took two days to make jig and intake pipe. If I make it by copper tube, I will be able to make another 5 in one night, but....... |
 上の一個を作るために試作したパイプ。これらの礎があって上の一個が出来ています。 Trials for bending upper one. |
 残りの５個を作るためのゲージ。Gauge for bending another 5. |
 銅パイプの加熱。ある点を超えるとすっと柔らかくなります。あまり赤くはなりません。Heating copper tube. It didn't become so red. Over some point, it become very soft . You can feel it easily. |
 ステンレスパイプの加熱。このくらい加熱すると非常に柔らかくなります。 しかし・・・ Heating stainless pipe. If you heat up to this color, you can feel the pipe become very soft but...... |
 次々とさけてしまいます。一本1m、送料を含めると２０００円近く。 さけるたびに冷や汗が吹き出ます。 Tear, tear tear..... Stainless pipe is very expensive. Only cold sweat and tears in my eyes I could feel. |
 試しにベンダーを購入して曲げてみました。やはりステンレスは無理か。 少しですがつぶれてしまいます。 矢印先端部にわずかな段差が見えます。 I bought pipe bender. But it made small deformity. |
 加熱して焼き鈍してからトライしましたが、駄目でした。裂け、つぶれ、波うち全て経験できました。 After annealing I tried. Tearing, crushing, waving, I could experienced all troubles. |
 敗退です。ステンレスパイプは駄目かもしれない。 復活はなるか。 Beaten! It may be impossible to make it by stainless tube. I wish I could revive. |
